Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has taken delivery of its second Airbus A350 ‑ 900, marking another decisive step in the carrier’s long‑haul fleet modernisation strategy.

The aircraft, registered HB‑IFB and named Delémont, arrived in Zurich on 4 February and becomes the first A350 in the fleet to wear the airline’s classic livery.

Its introduction reinforces SWISS’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and a refreshed passenger experience under the airline’s evolving SWISS Senses concept.

While the airline’s first A350, HB‑IFA, entered service last year in a special “Wanderlust” livery, the newly delivered HB‑IFB adopts the timeless SWISS paint scheme—an intentional nod to the brand’s heritage as the fleet transitions to next‑generation aircraft.

The aircraft is scheduled to enter revenue service on 23 February, operating the Zurich–Montreal route.

Its arrival brings SWISS’s active A350 fleet to two, with eight additional aircraft set to join over the coming years.

This steady stream of deliveries will progressively replace older long‑haul types and support the airline’s sustainability ambitions.

Strong Early Performance from the A350 Programme for SWISS…

SWISS is keen to highlight the operational success of its first A350 during its initial 100 days in service.

According to Chief Operating Officer Oliver Buchhofer, the aircraft has demonstrated “high reliability” while enabling the airline to introduce more customers to the SWISS Senses cabin experience.

The performance figures underscore the type’s early impact:

  • 720,000 kilometres flown, equivalent to 18 trips around the world
  • 300 takeoffs and landings
  • 900 flight hours, roughly the duration of 600 football matches
  • 11 destinations served, including Boston, Düsseldorf, Geneva, Hanover, Malaga, Nice, Palma de Mallorca, Prague, Taranto, Toulouse and Zurich

These metrics reflect both the aircraft’s utilisation and SWISS’s confidence in deploying the A350 across a mix of long‑haul and high‑demand European routes during its entry‑into‑service phase.

Expanding Airbus A350 Operations for Summer 2026

With two A350s now in the fleet, SWISS plans to expand long‑haul deployment from the start of the 2026 summer schedule.

The type will operate on the Zurich–Boston and Zurich–Seoul routes, strengthening the airline’s transatlantic and Asian networks with improved fuel efficiency and enhanced passenger comfort.

Further deliveries throughout the year will allow SWISS to gradually scale A350 operations, reducing the environmental footprint of its long‑haul flying while offering a more consistent onboard product.

A Wider Cabin Renewal Strategy & Strategic Step Forward…

The A350 programme is only one pillar of SWISS’s broader cabin modernisation plan.

The airline confirmed it will begin refurbishing its Airbus A330 fleet later this year, equipping the aircraft with the same SWISS Senses cabin introduced on the A350.

This ensures a harmonised premium experience across the long‑haul fleet as the airline transitions into its next chapter.

The arrival of HB‑IFB signals more than just a fleet addition—it represents SWISS’s long‑term commitment to operational efficiency, passenger experience, and environmental responsibility.

With a growing A350 fleet and a refreshed A330 programme on the horizon, the airline is positioning itself for a more modern, sustainable, and competitive future on the global stage.
