It is understood that armed police have been called to an Aer Lingus plane that landed in Dublin a few moments ago.

Aer Lingus Flight EI609 – Amsterdam to Dublin…


It is understood that armed police have been called to an Aer Lingus plane that landed in Dublin a few moments ago.

Aer Lingus flight EI609, which is the flight affected, is a routine scheduled service between Amsterdam and Dublin.

Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was EI-GAM.

As per data from Planespotters.net, EI-GAM is a 17.3 year old Airbus A320 that started out life with Aeroflot as VQ-BBB back in March 2009.

It was handed over to the Irish airline back in June 2017.

Of the A320 aircraft, Aer Lingus has 35 of them in their fleet, of which 34 are in active service, and one is parked, with an average fleet age of 15.5 years.

As well as the A320, Aer Lingus has the following other aircraft in their fleet:

  • 14 Airbus A321s.
  • 15 Airbus A330s.

In total, the Dublin-based carrier has 64 aircraft in their fleet, of which 62 are in active service, and two are parked, with an average fleet age of 12.9 years.

Aer Lingus flight EI609, which suffered the incident, departed from Amsterdam at 1805 local time and proceeded towards Dublin.

During the descent phase into the Irish airport, it was revealed that the crew requested armed police on arrival into Dublin.

The aircraft landed safely without further incident just before 1830 local time.

What Was The Reason for the Armed Police Request?


As per @FlightEmergency on X, it is understood the reason for the armed police request onboard Aer Lingus flight EI609 Amsterdam-Dublin is due to an incident involving two passengers.

One passenger attempted to snatch another passenger’s passport, in what is being reported as an altercation.

It is also unclear what the reasoning for the passport snatching is regarding too.

As soon as we have more information, then we will update you accordingly.
