In the last few moments, a Lufthansa City flight from Munich to Gothenburg has declared an emergency.

UPDATE #1 @ 1556 UK time – The aircraft is making a rapid descent and looks to be heading to Frankfurt for diversion.

UPDATE #2 @ 1600 UK time – D-ABGK is the aircraft involved in the emergency.

As per Planespotters, D-ABGK is a 18.3 year old Airbus A319 that started out life with Air Berlin back in April 2008.

The aircraft was handed over to Niki in October 2012 and February 2015 on lease from the German carrier, before being handed over to Eurowings in 2017.

In December 2023, the aircraft was then handed over to Lufthansa City Airlines where it has been since.

Of the A319 variant, Lufthansa City has 4 of them in their fleet, of which all of them are in active service, and have an average fleet age of 18.4 years.

The carrier also has 14 Airbus A320 Family aircraft in their fleet, of which all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 2.3 years.

In total, the airline has 18 aircraft in the fleet.

UPDATE #3 @ 1603 UK time – The Airbus A319 is now on a long straight-in approach for the 25s at Frankfurt Airport. Emergency landing imminent.

UPDATE #4 @ 1613 UK time – TOUCHDOWN!

Lufthansa City flight VL2430 Munich-Gothenburg has appeared to have touched down safely into Frankfurt following it’s emergency call.

At this stage, the reason for the emergency is currently unclear.

As soon as we have more information pertinent to the incident at hand, then we will update you accordingly.

For now, this remains a developing story pending any updates that may come through in the hours ahead. Stay tuned.

UPDATE #5 @ 1615 UK time – The aircraft appears to have come to a full stop on the runway.

Cause still unclear at this time.

UPDATE #6 @ 1617 UK time – Aircraft now clear of the runway and looks to be taxiing to a stand.
