In the last few moments, WestJet flight WS2 from Calgary to London Heathrow has declared an emergency over Northern Ireland.

C-GUDO is understood to be the aircraft involved in the incident.

In the last few moments, WestJet flight WS2 from Calgary to London Heathrow has declared an emergency over Northern Ireland.

UPDATE #1 @ 1137 UK time – The aircraft is currently at FL390 at the time of emergency declaration.

UPDATE #2 @ 1141 UK time – At this moment in time, the aircraft looks to be continuing on to London Heathrow despite the 7700 call.

EMERGENCY UPDATE #3 @ 1142 UK time – C-GUDO is the aircraft involved.

As per data from Planespotters.net, C-GUDO is a 6.8 year old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that was delivered to WestJet back in March 2019.

Of the 787-9 variant, the Canadian carrier has seven of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of the seven, all of them are in active service, with an average fleet age of 5.9 years.

As well as the Boeing 787, WestJet has the following other aircraft in their fleet:

  • 36 Boeing 737-700s
  • 58 Boeing 737-800s
  • 58 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.

In total, the airline has 159 aircraft in their fleet, of which 3 are parked and 156 are in active service, with an average fleet age of 11.2 years.

UPDATE #4 @ 1145 UK time – As per @Shauns_Aviation on X, it is understood the reason for the emergency is medical-related.

The aircraft will continue on to London Heathrow.

UPDATE #5 @ 1148 UK time – WestJet flight WS2 Calgary-London, which declared the emergency, is now squawking 7647, which is a non-emergency code.

UPDATE #6 @ 1156 UK time – The aircraft has started it’s descent into London Heathrow, and is just shy of Chester at the moment.

EMERGENCY UPDATE #7 @ 1227 UK time – TOUCHDOWN!

WestJet flight WS2 from Calgary, which declared the emergency, has touched down into London Heathrow.

As stated, the cause of this was a medical-related incident onboard.
