Within the last 30 minutes, an American Airlines Boeing 787 from Zurich to Philadelphia has declared an emergency and diverted to London Heathrow.
Information is limited surrounding the incident at hand, but below is what we know on this so far.

American Airlines Flight AA93 – Zurich to Philadelphia…

American Airlines flight AA93, which declared the emergency, is a routine scheduled flight between Zurich and Philadelphia.
Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident is N882BL.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N882BL is a 4.6 year old Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline back in May 2023.
Of the 787-8 Dreamliner variant, the airline has 37 of them in their fleet, of which all of them are in active service, with an average fleet age of 8.1 years.
As well as the 787-8, American Airlines has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:
- 132 Airbus A319s.
- 48 Airbus A320s.
- 306 Airbus A321s.
- 406 Boeing 737s.
- 67 Boeing 777s.
- 33 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
In total, the airline has 1029 aircraft in their fleet, of which 1000 are in active service and 29 are parked, with an average fleet age of 14.6 years.
American Airlines flight AA93, which declared the emergency, departed from Zurich at 1204 local time and proceeded west towards Philadelphia.
Near the UK, the aircraft declared an emergency via the 7700 squawk code, proceeded to do a loop and then descend towards London Heathrow.
The aircraft managed to land safely without further incident at just after 12:35pm UK time.
Reason for the Emergency?
At the time of publication, the reason for the emergency onboard American Airlines flight AA93 Zurich-Philadelphia is unclear.
Information will no doubt be released in the coming hours which will confirm what the reason for the diversion was.
