China Eastern Airlines is preparing for one of its most expansive summer–autumn seasons yet, unveiling a sweeping network and capacity boost that underscores both its strategic ambitions and the continued resurgence of global air travel.

The 2026 schedule, beginning March 29, positions the Shanghai‑based carrier for stronger international competitiveness, deeper domestic connectivity, and a renewed focus on passenger experience.

A Larger Fleet and a Wider Network

For the upcoming season, China Eastern will deploy 823 passenger aircraft across more than 950 routes.

Notably, this includes 14 COMAC C919s, the domestically built narrowbody that has become a symbol of China’s aviation aspirations.

Daily flights are expected to exceed 3,200, marking a 1.3 percent year‑on‑year increase.

The airline’s hub‑focused strategy remains central. Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an, Kunming, and Chengdu will see enhanced connectivity as China Eastern increases frequencies and fine‑tunes schedules to improve transfer efficiency.

This approach reflects the carrier’s long‑term goal of strengthening its position in China’s most competitive aviation markets.

International Growth Gains Momentum For China Eastern Airlines…

China Eastern is placing particular emphasis on rebuilding and expanding its international footprint.

The airline aims to operate 1,400 weekly international and regional departures, with Europe‑bound flights exceeding 160 per week, a 24 percent year‑on‑year rise.

Southeast Asia will see more than 500 weekly departures, up 13 percent.

The carrier is also increasing services to South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and several other markets as demand continues to rebound.

In total, 30 new international and regional routes are planned for the season.

Among the most notable additions are Xi’an–Vienna and new links from Shanghai to Tashkent, Adelaide, Cheongju, and Tbilisi. The Shanghai–Tashkent service launches March 30.

China Eastern will also boost frequencies on 14 existing routes connecting Shanghai with major global destinations such as Venice, Barcelona, and Singapore.

Summer Resumptions and Seasonal Demand

The airline is preparing for a surge in leisure travel during July and August.

Several routes will be resumed or newly introduced during the peak summer period, including services from Shanghai to Stockholm, Dublin, Zurich, Mumbai, and Ulaanbaatar.

These additions reflect both pent‑up demand and China Eastern’s intent to diversify its long‑haul and regional portfolio.

Domestically, China Eastern’s “Air Express” network continues to expand.

The premium service offering will cover 47 domestic routes and four international routes, reinforcing the airline’s push to differentiate high‑frequency corridors with streamlined service and improved punctuality.

Enhancing the Passenger Experience

Beyond network growth, China Eastern is investing in service upgrades designed to elevate the onboard experience.

A key enhancement is the rollout of complimentary in‑flight Wi‑Fi across all cabins on widebody aircraft operated by both China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines.

This upgrade will initially apply to routes between China and Australia, New Zealand, and surrounding regions.

The move aligns with a broader industry trend toward connectivity as a core passenger expectation, particularly on long‑haul services.

A Strategic Step Toward Global Competitiveness For China Eastern Airlines…

China Eastern’s 2026 summer–autumn plan signals a confident step forward as the airline accelerates its international recovery and strengthens its domestic foundations.

With new aircraft, new routes, and a renewed focus on service quality, the carrier is positioning itself to capture growing demand across both leisure and business markets.

For China’s second‑largest airline, the season ahead is more than a schedule update, it is a statement of intent.
