In the last few moments, a Delta Air Lines Airbus A330neo operating a flight between London and Seattle has declared an emergency.
It is understood that the aircraft will be diverting to Edinburgh.

Live Emergency: Delta DL21 London to Seattle…

UPDATE #1 @ 1953 UK time – The aircraft has made a u-turn and is descending towards Edinburgh.
UPDATE #2 @ 1957 UK time – N422DZ is the aircraft involved in the emergency.
As per Planespotters, N422DZ is a 3.2 year old Airbus A330-900neo that was delivered to the airline back in May 2023.
Of the A330neo variant, Delta Air Lines has 39 of them in their fleet.
Moreover, of the 39, 38 are in active service, and one is parked, with an average fleet age of 3.6 years.

As well as the A330-900neo, Delta has the following other aircraft in their fleet:

In total, the carrier has 1,001 aircraft in their active fleet, of which 968 are in active service, and 33 are parked, with an average fleet age of 15 years exactly.

UPDATE #3 @ 2000 UK time – Delta flight DL21 London-Seattle is continuing it’s descent towards Edinburgh for an emergency landing.
The cause of the emergency is not known yet.

UPDATE #4 @ 2005 UK time – Weather conditions for Edinburgh indicate a Runway 24 approach for the emergency landing.

UPDATE #5 @ 2009 UK time – Delta flight status could be rather telling.
DL21, originally from London, is expected to continue on to Seattle from Edinburgh at 2147 local time tonight.
Medical emergency potentially?

UPDATE #6 @ 2012 UK time – DL21 is currently at FL150 and is edging closer towards Edinburgh.
Still no official confirmation of reason for emergency as of yet.

UPDATE #7 @ 2018 UK time – DL21 is entering the downwind for Runway 24.

UPDATE #8 @ 2023 UK time – The Airbus A330neo is now on final approach for Runway 24 at Edinburgh.
Reason for the emergency still not known at this time. Landing imminent.

UPDATE #9 @ 2030 UK time – TOUCHDOWN!
Delta Flight DL21 London-Seattle, which declared the emergency, has appeared to have touched down safely into Edinburgh following the 7700 call.
At the moment, it is unclear what the nature of the emergency is.
As soon as we have more information on this, then we will update you accordingly.

UPDATE #10 @ 2041 UK time – DL21 has come to a stop on the taxiway at Edinburgh.
Unsure into why this happened at this time.
UPDATE #11 @ 8/6/26 at 1845 UK time – The Aviation Herald reports this emergency was due to a floor heater problem.
Passengers reported fumes onboard as a result of this problem.
