An easyJet flight from Manchester to Hamburg declared an emergency on Wednesday evening, 23 September 2026, after the crew reported fumes on board.
Flight U22195 was operating the regular evening service from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Hamburg Airport (HAM) when the crew declared an emergency.
According to aviation incident tracker @FlightEmergency on X, the declaration followed reports of fumes on board the aircraft. easyJet has yet to comment publicly on the incident.
Flight U22195 Departs Manchester Late
The service is scheduled to leave Manchester at 18:15 local time, with arrival in Hamburg planned for 20:50 local time.
Flight data from Flightradar24 shows the aircraft left Manchester at 19:31 local time, around 76 minutes behind schedule.
That delay stems from the aircraft’s previous rotation.
The inbound service from Amsterdam landed at Manchester at 18:21 local time, six minutes after U22195 was due to depart, leaving the ground crew with a tight turnaround.
At the time of writing, it remains unclear whether the crew will continue to Hamburg, return to Manchester or divert to another airport.
The Aviation Hub will confirm the outcome once flight data and official information become available.
Fumes on Board U22195
Fume events, like the one we have seen onboard the easyJet flight from Manchester, are among the more common reasons for emergency declarations on commercial flights.
Crews treat any unusual smell or haze in the cabin or flight deck seriously, as it can point to an issue with the air conditioning packs, an engine oil leak into the bleed air system, or an electrical fault.
Standard procedure calls for pilots to don oxygen masks where necessary, identify the likely source and land at the nearest suitable airport.
Engineers in Manchester will now need to trace the source of the fumes before G-EZRX can return to service.
G-EZRX Had a Full Day of Flying
The aircraft operating the flight is G-EZRX, an Airbus A320 with manufacturer serial number 8321.
According to The Aviation Hub aircraft database, the A320-214 is fitted with sharklets and seats 186 passengers in easyJet’s single class layout.
G-EZRX first flew on 25 May 2018 and joined easyJet on 31 May 2018, making it just over eight years old.
The jet had already completed four sectors on Wednesday before the Hamburg service.
It flew from Manchester to Ibiza and back as U22027 and U22028, then operated a return trip to Amsterdam as U22165 and U22166.
The Hamburg flight was its fifth sector of the day.
What It Means for Passengers in Manchester
The incident is likely to cause knock on disruption for passengers in both Manchester and Hamburg.
The return service, U22196 from Hamburg to Manchester, is already showing a late departure.
G-EZRX is also scheduled to operate U22013 from Manchester to Alicante on Thursday morning.
That flight could face delays or an aircraft swap while engineers investigate the fume event.
