The Emirates A350-900 has been deployed on the Kolkata–Dubai route as part of its winter 2026 schedule, with the carrier simultaneously raising weekly frequencies between the two cities from 11 to 12.

According to Aviation A2Z, the first A350-900 service arrived at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata (CCU), on Sunday 25 October 2026, greeted by a ceremonial water cannon salute from the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

What Changed on the Kolkata–Dubai Route

The Emirates A350-900 replaces the Boeing 777-300ER previously assigned to the daily EK570 and EK571 services between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Kolkata. The aircraft swap takes effect alongside the broader winter 2026 schedule.

The twelfth weekly frequency runs on selected days in addition to the daily pair of services. Passengers travelling between eastern India and Dubai therefore have one more weekly departure to choose from.

A Formal Welcome at Kolkata Airport

The AAI marked the arrival with a traditional water cannon salute, a gesture reserved for inaugural services and new aircraft types at Indian airports. Aviation A2Z reports that Vikram Singh, Airport Director at Kolkata Airport, welcomed the development and congratulated the Emirates team and passengers.

Singh said the arrival of the A350 and the increase in flight frequency "reflected growing passenger demand and would strengthen international connectivity from eastern India."

Why Kolkata Matters to Emirates

Kolkata is the commercial gateway to eastern India and the state of West Bengal. Aviation A2Z notes that Dubai has a significant role in the commercial relationship between the region and the United Arab Emirates, with trade links spanning textiles, gold and jewellery manufacturing, leather exports, tea and information technology services.

The expanded schedule provides additional capacity for corporate travellers, exporters and business delegations moving between Kolkata and the Gulf.

The Role of Dubai as a Connecting Hub

Dubai International Airport (DXB) functions as a major connecting hub within the Emirates network. From Kolkata, passengers can connect through Dubai to destinations across North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

The extra weekly frequency gives travellers one more opportunity each week to begin those onward journeys, without requiring a separate direct service from Kolkata to every market.

Emirates A350 Across the Network

The Kolkata deployment is consistent with Emirates' wider effort to introduce the A350-900 on established routes across its network. You can track the full Emirates fleet and its route assignments using the Aircraft Search tool.

The A350-900 features a modern wide-body cabin. Its introduction on EK570 and EK571 gives Kolkata-based passengers access to the type on a route they have previously flown on the 777-300ER.

The Bottom Line

The combination of an extra weekly flight and a newer aircraft type represents a meaningful upgrade for passengers in eastern India. Kolkata Airport gains another A350 operator, and Emirates reinforces its presence in a commercially important market.

The changes are already in effect as of 25 October 2026, forming part of the airline's published winter schedule.
