Emirates Skywards Mile-a-Minute: Earn Miles for Every Minute in Dubai

Emirates Skywards is offering members one bonus mile for every minute they spend in Dubai, capped at 7,200 miles after five days.

Emirates Skywards has launched a promotion offering members one bonus mile for every minute they spend in Dubai, with bookings open between 21 October and 5 November 2026 and travel valid through 13 December 2026.

The offer is a direct incentive to encourage visitors to spend time in Dubai rather than simply transit through the city. As One Mile at a Time notes, a major motivation for Emirates is building Dubai's broader economy, not only filling its own aircraft.

How the Emirates Skywards Promotion Works

According to One Mile at a Time, all Skywards members are eligible, but registration is required before travel. The ticket must originate outside the UAE, be booked directly through Emirates or flydubai, and be for roundtrip travel. Award tickets do not qualify, as the itinerary must be eligible to earn Skywards miles in the normal way.

The Dubai stay must last between 24 hours and 30 days. Members can structure this either as an extended stopover on a connecting itinerary, for example New York to Dubai to Delhi, or with Dubai as the final destination, such as New York to Dubai and back.

The length of stay used for the calculation is based on the ticketed itinerary, not a separately tracked clock.

What the Cap Means in Practice

One Skywards mile per minute works out at 1,440 miles per day or 10,080 miles per week, as One Mile at a Time calculates. That sounds generous, but the earning is capped at 7,200 bonus miles per member, which is reached after exactly five days in Dubai.

Anything beyond five days earns nothing extra under this promotion. The structure is therefore best suited to a short stopover or a city break rather than a longer holiday. View from the Wing puts it plainly: the miles accrue whether you are eating, sleeping or sitting by the pool, but the cap means a longer stay adds no incremental benefit.

This Is Not the First Time Emirates Has Run This Promotion

View from the Wing reports that Emirates ran the same promotion in August 2021, covering visits from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022 during Expo 2020 and the UAE's fiftieth anniversary. At that time the cap was set at 5,000 miles, 2,200 fewer than the current offer.

Time-based mileage earning is not unique to Emirates either. View from the Wing notes that Thai Airways ran a promotion in April 2020 awarding one mile for every four hours members spent within 328 feet of their home during the pandemic, tracked via a dedicated app.

The Travel Advisory Context

One Mile at a Time points out that the promotion launched shortly after the US Department of State issued a Level 3 travel advisory for the UAE, advising travellers to reconsider travel there. Members based in the United States or considering travel from there will want to weigh that advisory alongside the earning opportunity.

The promotion does not alter the underlying question of whether Dubai is the right destination for a given traveller at this time.

What It Means for Stopovers

The promotion is well suited to anyone already planning a routing through Dubai. Our own Dubai Airport Guide: Inside the Emirates Megahub sets out what passengers can expect from a stay at the airport and in the city, which is useful context for anyone weighing up a stopover itinerary. You can also use our Airline Search to explore Emirates routes and find itineraries that would qualify.

Emirates has also been expanding its network aggressively this year. We recently covered how Emirates is bringing the A380 to Delhi and eyeing wider India expansion, which means more routings through Dubai are available to passengers in that region.

The Bottom Line

The Emirates Skywards mile-a-minute promotion is a straightforward incentive to add a short Dubai stay to an existing itinerary. The 7,200-mile cap is reached after five days, so the promotion rewards a stopover or city break but offers no extra value for longer visits. Registration is required, travel must be booked directly through Emirates or flydubai, and award tickets are excluded.

Anyone who was already considering a Dubai stopover and can book between 21 October and 5 November 2026 for travel before 13 December 2026 stands to gain a useful top-up of Skywards miles. For everyone else, the miles alone are unlikely to tip the decision.
