Jet2 Baggage Allowance 2026: Hand Luggage and Hold Bag Guide

Jet2 has one of the most generous baggage policies of any UK leisure airline.

Every passenger gets a free 10kg cabin bag, which is far more than many low cost rivals include as standard.

However, the rules on size, hold luggage and package holidays still catch travellers out.

This guide explains the Jet2 baggage allowance in full, so you know exactly what you can bring before you get to the airport.

The Free Jet2 Hand Luggage Allowance

The headline allowance is simple.

According to Jet2’s official baggage page, every passenger except infants gets a 10kg hand luggage allowance as standard on all Jet2.com flights.

That bag must be no larger than 56cm by 45cm by 25cm, including wheels and handles.

This is a common size for wheeled cabin cases, so many travellers will already own a suitable bag.

You can also bring a second, smaller item.

Jet2 says passengers can take one small under seat bag, such as a handbag or laptop bag, measuring no more than 40cm by 30cm by 20cm.

How Strict Is Jet2 With Hand Luggage?

The rules themselves have not changed, but enforcement matters.

Flight Tribe notes that the 10kg limit and 56cm by 45cm by 25cm dimensions remain the same, but what has changed is how consistently they are applied.

If your bag is too big or too heavy, it will be moved to the hold.

My Baggage explains that cabin bags exceeding the dimensions or weighing more than 10kg will be checked in as hold baggage, with an additional charge.

On busy flights, your bag may go in the hold anyway.

Tripbuffer notes that Jet2 may place your 10kg cabin bag in the hold at no charge when the overhead lockers are full.

Jet2 Hold Luggage Allowance

Hold bags work differently depending on how you book.

SendMyBag explains that passengers can bring up to three items of hold luggage, each weighing up to 22kg.

On flight only bookings, hold luggage is an extra.

FlyRulebook notes that flight only fares include no hold allowance, so you must add bags to your booking if you need them.

Booking early saves money.

FlyRulebook reports that hold baggage starts from around £10 each way when added online, compared with around £45 if you pay at the airport.

Jet2holidays Packages Include a Hold Bag

Package holidays are different.

Flight Tribe explains that Jet2holidays includes one 22kg hold bag per person free of charge, while flight only bookings pay for it separately.

This is important to remember when comparing prices.

A Jet2holidays package may look more expensive than a flight only booking, but it already includes a hold bag for each traveller.

FlyRulebook gives a useful warning: do not pay for hold baggage twice.

If you have booked a package, check your confirmation before adding extra bags.

Excess Baggage Charges

If your hold bag is too heavy, you will pay.

FlyRulebook reports that excess baggage is charged at £12 per kilo over the 22kg allowance.

There is also a strict maximum.

FlyRulebook notes that no single bag may exceed 32kg, regardless of how much you are willing to pay.

Weigh your bags at home before travelling.

A simple luggage scale can save you an expensive surprise at the check in desk.

Infants and Children

Infants under two do not get their own hand luggage allowance.

However, Jet2 explains that if the accompanying adult has a 22kg hold bag, an extra 10kg allowance for the infant’s belongings can be added free of charge.

Vagari’s guide adds that Jet2 automatically adds this extra 10kg per infant to the accompanying adult’s hold allowance when hold luggage is booked.

Children over two receive the full adult allowance, including the free 10kg cabin bag.

Musical Instruments and Special Items

Musical instruments can travel in the cabin if they fit the rules.

SendMyBag notes that instruments within 56cm by 45cm by 25cm and under 10kg may be carried as standard hand luggage.

Vagari adds that the instrument replaces your main cabin bag rather than being an extra item.

Larger instruments will need to travel in the hold or have a seat booked for them.

Sports equipment such as golf clubs and skis is handled separately, usually for an additional fee.

Check Jet2’s website for the latest charges before you travel.

Check In and Bag Drop Tips

Arrive with enough time to drop hold luggage.

Summer departures from busy regional airports can see long queues at bag drop, particularly early in the morning.

Print or download your boarding pass in advance.

Having it ready speeds up the process and lets you head straight to bag drop if you have hold luggage.

Keep valuables, medication and travel documents in your cabin bag rather than in the hold.

If your cabin bag is moved to the hold on a busy flight, take these items out first and keep them in your under seat bag.

Finally, label your bags clearly with your name and contact details.

It is a simple step that makes it far easier to reunite you with a delayed bag.

How Jet2 Compares With Rivals

Jet2’s free 10kg cabin bag is its standout advantage.

FlyRulebook describes it as notably more generous than most low cost rivals, many of which only include a small under seat bag in their basic fares.

For short trips, that allowance may be all you need.

Many travellers can avoid paying for hold luggage entirely by packing efficiently into a 10kg cabin case.

Top Tips for Packing for Jet2

Measure your cabin bag, including wheels and handles.

Many cases are sold as cabin size but exceed 56cm once the wheels are included.

Wear your heaviest items.

A coat, boots or a heavy jumper worn on board does not count towards your allowance.

Use your under seat bag wisely.

It is ideal for essentials such as passports, medication, chargers and snacks that you want close at hand.

Finally, add hold bags online before you fly rather than at the airport, where prices are much higher.

The Bottom Line

The Jet2 baggage allowance is generous by UK standards.

A free 10kg cabin bag and a small under seat item cover most short breaks, and Jet2holidays packages include a 22kg hold bag as well.

Know the limits, measure your bag and book extras online.

That way, you will avoid fees and start your holiday stress free.
