Jet2 flight LS3892, which declared the emergency, is a routine scheduled flight between Preveza and London Luton.

Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was G-HLYO.

As per data from Planespotters.net, G-HLYO is a brand new 0.2 year old Airbus A321neo that was delivered to the airline back in April.

Moreover, of the A321neo variant, Jet2 has 29 of them in their fleet.

Within the 29, 28 are in active service, and one is parked, with an average age of 1.4 years.

As well as the A321neo, the carrier has the following other aircraft in their fleet:

  • 5 Airbus A321ceos.
  • 2 Airbus A330s.
  • 101 Boeing 737 Family aircraft.

In total, the airline has 137 aircraft in their fleet, of which 134 are in active service, and three are parked, with an average fleet age of 13.7 years.

Jet2 flight LS3892, which declared the emergency, departed Preveza at 2353 local time on June 28, and tracked towards London Luton.

However, in German airspace, the aircraft started descending to nearby Erfurt.

Whilst this descent happened, the crew declared an emergency via the 7700 squawk code.

Not long after the descent, the aircraft landed safely without further incident.

What Was The Reason for the Emergency?

As per ASN, it is understood the reason for the emergency onboard Jet2 flight LS3892 Preveza-London was due to there being smoke onboard.

It is understood that this smoke occurred in the hold of the aircraft, where the luggage is kept.

Furthermore, following the incident, G-HLYO remains on the ground in Erfurt.

It is unclear whether the smoke has caused any damage to the aircraft, or has resulted in a fire.

Moreover, it is also unclear what the source of the smoke has come from.
