JetBlue Launches Fort Lauderdale to Cali: Colombia Network Grows to Four

JetBlue has begun daily nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale and Cali, Colombia, making Cali its fourth Colombian destination.

JetBlue began nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Cali, Colombia on Thursday, adding its fourth Colombian destination and continuing a rapid expansion across Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to Airline Geeks, the route was announced earlier this year and now operates daily using Airbus A320 aircraft. Cali is the most populous city in southwest Colombia, giving JetBlue a foothold in a region it had not previously served.

JetBlue's Growing Colombia Network

The Fort Lauderdale to Cali service is JetBlue's fourth destination in Colombia. The airline already serves Cartagena, Medellín and Barranquilla from its network, with Airline Geeks reporting that service to Barranquilla only launched on 1 October, just weeks before the Cali route went live.

That pace of expansion underlines how seriously JetBlue is treating the Colombian market. Two new Colombian destinations in a single month is a notable commitment for any carrier.

What JetBlue Says About the Route

The carrier stated that Cali service will strengthen connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean and give more travellers from Colombia greater access to its North American network, according to Airline Geeks.

Fort Lauderdale serves as a natural hub for Caribbean and Latin American operations, sitting geographically closer to South America than most other major US airports on the East Coast. For Colombian travellers, a daily nonstop link to Florida opens a wide range of onward connections across the United States.

The Airbus A320 on the Route

JetBlue is operating the route with the Airbus A320, a narrowbody well suited to transatlantic leisure and short-to-medium-haul international flying. The type is a core part of JetBlue's fleet and a familiar sight on the airline's Caribbean and Latin American routes.

A Wider Trend of Latin American Expansion

JetBlue is not alone in focusing on Latin America. We have covered similar international network moves in recent months, including Porter Airlines announcing Vancouver to Phoenix flights as carriers across North America push to broaden their international reach.

The Latin American and Caribbean market has proved particularly attractive for US low-cost and leisure carriers, given strong leisure demand and growing business travel between the two regions.

The Bottom Line

JetBlue's Fort Lauderdale to Cali launch rounds out a busy October for the airline in Colombia, following the Barranquilla debut earlier in the month. With four Colombian cities now on the map, JetBlue has positioned itself as a meaningful competitor for traffic between the United States and one of South America's most economically significant countries.
