In the last few moments, a KLM Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Sao Paulo has declared an emergency following a u-turn.
Also, it is understood that PH-BVS is the aircraft involved in the incident.

Live Emergency: KLM Flight KL791 Amsterdam-Sao Paulo…

UPDATE #1 @ 1359 UK time – The aircraft made a u-turn just off the French coast.
UPDATE #2 @ 1403 UK time – PH-BVS is the aircraft involved in the incident.
As per Planespotters, PH-BVS is a 9.4 year old Boeing 777-300ER that was delivered to the Dutch carrier back in February 2017.
Furthermore, of the 777-300ER variant, KLM has 16 of them in their fleet.
Also, within the 16, all of them are in active service, with an average fleet age of 12.5 years.
Also, as well as the 777-300ER, the Dutch airline has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:
- 16 Airbus A321s.
- 10 Airbus A330s.
- 39 Boeing 737s.
- 15 Boeing 777-200s.
- 28 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
Overall, KLM has 124 aircraft in their mainline fleet, of which 116 are in active service, and eight are parked, with an average fleet age of 13.1 years.

UPDATE #3 @ 1407 UK time – KLM flight KL791, originally bound for Sao Paulo, is nearing the English coast, as the aircraft continues it’s emergency diversion back to Amsterdam.
UPDATE #4 @ 1408 UK time – @FlightEmergency on X reports that this emergency is due to a suspected oil leak on the Boeing 777.
UPDATE #5 @ 1414 UK time – Due to the nature of the emergency, it is a possibility that fire crews will meet the aircraft on landing to do an inspection of the aircraft.

EMERGENCY UPDATE #6 @ 1418 UK time – KL791 has commenced it’s descent back into Amsterdam Schiphol.

EMERGENCY UPDATE #7 @ 1428 UK time – KL791 descending through FL130 off the Dutch coast.
Furthermore, the landing is expected soon!

UPDATE #8 @ 1436 UK time – KL791 is in the closing stages of it’s descent, and will be setting up for approach shortly into Schiphol.

UPDATE #9 @ 1440 UK time – KL791 now on final approach.
Furthermore, the emergency landing is imminent.

UPDATE #10 @ 1444 UK time – TOUCHDOWN!
KLM flight KL791, originally bound for Sao Paulo, has appeared to have touched down safely back into Amsterdam Schiphol due to it’s emergency call following a suspected oil leak.
As soon as we get more information, we will update you accordingly.
UPDATE #11 @ 1445 UK time – Aircraft vacated runway straight away and looks to be heading straight for a gate.

UPDATE #12 @ 1447 UK time – KL791 back on stand safely without further incident.
