Two new routes announcements this week point to continued confidence in long-haul and leisure travel, with LATAM Airlines planning a new transatlantic service and Asiana Airlines adding short-term capacity to a popular Thai destination.

LATAM Plans São Paulo to Geneva from 2027
Aviation Week: air transport reports that LATAM Airlines intends to launch a three-times-weekly service between São Paulo Guarulhos and Geneva from April 2027, subject to government approval. The route would be operated using Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Aviation Week: air transport reports that São Paulo departures are planned for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with Geneva departures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The announcement drew a warm response from the Swiss side. Jean-François de Saussure, CEO of Geneve Aeroport, said: "We know that such a direct connection has long been awaited by diplomatic, business and tourism stakeholders, as well as by the large Brazilian community living within our catchment area."
Geneva is a significant destination for business and diplomatic travel given its role as a seat of international organisations, and a nonstop link from one of South America's busiest hubs would remove the need for connections through European gateway airports. Readers planning travel on the 787-9 can explore the type further using our Aircraft Search.
Asiana Adds Extra Incheon to Phuket Capacity
AeroRoutes reports that Asiana Airlines will operate additional flights between Seoul Incheon and Phuket between 20 November and 10 December 2026, scheduled every four days. The extra services will use Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
The timing covers the start of the peak winter sun period for Thailand, when demand from South Korean travellers typically rises. Seoul Incheon is one of Asia's most connected hubs; our Seoul Incheon Airport Guide covers the airport's layout and facilities in detail.
What These New Routes Mean
Both moves reflect different parts of the market. LATAM's Geneva plan, still pending approval, targets a gap in direct South America to Switzerland connectivity that has long been served only through stopovers. Asiana's additional Phuket flights are a shorter-term capacity measure timed to meet seasonal leisure demand.
For the LATAM route, the pending government approval means the April 2027 start date is not yet confirmed. Passengers interested in both carriers can track schedule developments through our Airline Search.
