Singapore Airlines has announced a passenger experience investment programme worth more than S$2 billion, spanning new cabin interiors, an upgraded entertainment system, lounge refurbishments and new airport services, according to Aviation Business News and Future Travel Experience.

The scale of the commitment signals that the airline intends to press its product advantage well into the next decade, well beyond the incremental updates carriers typically announce between aircraft orders. Use our Airline Search to explore Singapore Airlines' current network and fleet.

First Class Comes to the A350-900ULR

The headline product change is the introduction of a First Class cabin on the Airbus A350-900ULR, a configuration the aircraft has never carried before, as Aviation Business News reports. Singapore Airlines operates the A350-900ULR on its ultra-long-haul routes, including the world's longest commercial flights, so the move puts a premium product on some of the most demanding journeys in commercial aviation.

Alongside that, all four cabin classes, First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy, will be introduced on the Boeing 777-9 from the second half of 2027, the airline confirmed.

41 Aircraft to Receive New Interiors

The retrofit programme will cover 41 Airbus A350-900 and A350-900ULR aircraft, according to Aviation Business News and Future Travel Experience. That is a substantial portion of a widebody fleet, and the work will bring the new cabin standards to existing aircraft rather than making passengers wait for new deliveries.

Business Class passengers will also gain sleeper suits for the first time, Aviation Business News and Future Travel Experience report, a step that moves the overnight experience closer to what several Gulf and Asian competitors already offer.

New amenity kits will be introduced across all cabin classes as part of the same programme, both outlets confirm.

A KrisWorld Overhaul with 4K and Spatial Audio

The airline's KrisWorld inflight entertainment system is receiving a significant upgrade. New 4K high-resolution touchscreens will be fitted across the fleet, Aviation Business News and Future Travel Experience report, and Bluetooth audio pairing for personal headphones will be introduced so passengers can use their own devices wirelessly.

Future Travel Experience reports that the new system will include OLED displays on selected aircraft, more than 2,500 entertainment options, and spatial audio as a feature of the refreshed KrisWorld platform.

High-speed internet via Starlink will also be available on equipped aircraft, the airline announced.

Singapore Airlines Lounges and Airport Services

Singapore Airlines has invested more than S$130 million in SilverKris lounge upgrades worldwide, Aviation Business News and Future Travel Experience confirm. That figure places the lounge investment alone among the larger single commitments any carrier has made to its ground product in recent years.

At Changi Airport, new concierge and priority airport services will be introduced for Suites and First Class customers, both outlets report, extending the premium experience beyond the cabin door.

What It Means for Passengers

The breadth of this programme is notable. Hardware changes such as new seats and screens are paired with service additions such as sleeper suits, amenity kits and dedicated concierge handling, suggesting the airline is trying to close any gaps a competitor might exploit at any point in the journey.

Chief Executive Officer Goh Choon Phong said: "This launch marks another major milestone in Singapore Airlines' unwavering commitment to elevating the end-to-end travel experience."

He added, in comments reported by Future Travel Experience: "This launch is not an endpoint, but another step in our continuous pursuit to earn and retain the trust and loyalty of our customers, and reinforce our leadership in the airline industry."

The Bottom Line

A S$2 billion programme that touches the fleet, the lounge network, the in-flight product and the ground experience at Changi is a statement of intent rather than a routine refresh. The A350-900ULR gaining First Class is the most operationally significant change, given the routes that aircraft flies. Passengers on retrofitted A350-900s will see the new interiors arrive before the 777-9 enters service in 2027, making the retrofit schedule the near-term story to watch.
