Southwest Airlines Flight Dallas-Baltimore Declares Emergency

In the last 30 minutes, a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Baltimore has declared an emergency moments after departing Dallas.
Information is limited surrounding the incident at hand.
Below is what we know on this so far…
Southwest Airlines Flight WN1684 Dallas-Baltimore…
Southwest Airlines flight WN1684, which declared the emergency, is a routine scheduled flight between Dallas and Baltimore.
Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident is N8834L.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N8834L, the aircraft involved in the Dallas incident, is a 3.7 year old Boeing 737 MAX 8 that was delivered to the airline back in January 2023.
Of the 737 MAX 8 variant, Southwest Airlines has 334 of them in their fleet.
Moreover, of the 334, 328 are in active service, and six are parked, with an average fleet age of 3.7 years.
As well as the MAX 8, the carrier also has:
- 277 Boeing 737-700s.
- 188 Boeing 737-800s.
In total, the carrier has 799 aircraft in their mainline fleet, of which 776 are in active service, and 23 are parked, with an average fleet age of 11.1 years, with the airline having a big presence out of Dallas.
Southwest Airlines flight WN1684, which declared the emergency, departed from Dallas Love Field at 1505 local time, originally bound for Baltimore.
Moments after departure, the aircraft declared an emergency via the 7700 squawk code, to indicate an issue onboard.
From there, the aircraft performed a circuit back to it’s departure airfield, where it is still in the air at the time of writing.
Reason for the Emergency?
At this stage, the reason for the emergency onboard Southwest Airlines flight WN1684 from Dallas to Baltimore is unclear.
What we do know is that the problem must be serious after the emergency was declared moments after departure.

TOUCHDOWN! Southwest Airlines flight WN1684, originally bound for Baltimore, has appeared to have landed safely back into Dallas Love Field following it’s emergency call. Initial reports from @NewsPolitics on X is speculating an engine failure on departure but is yet to be officially confirmed.
