Virgin Atlantic Launches NDC Connections for UK Travel Trade

Virgin Atlantic has begun a phased rollout of its New Distribution Capability for UK trade partners, starting with direct connections and aggregator Travelfusion.

Virgin Atlantic NDC is now being introduced in phases for UK trade partners, in a move the airline says will deliver a "richer, more flexible, and more connected retailing experience", according to Travel Weekly.

The rollout marks a significant shift in how the carrier distributes its fares and ancillary products to agents and travel businesses across the UK market.

What Virgin Atlantic NDC Offers Trade Partners

The airline says its NDC platform has been built in collaboration with partners and will be supported by "comprehensive servicing capability". Travel Weekly reports that the offering will be enhanced over time with additional content, richer ancillary products, expanded fare options and new retailing capabilities.

Content will initially be available through direct connections with the carrier or via aggregator Travelfusion. Access via GDS platforms and additional aggregators will follow in later phases.

Virgin Atlantic will continue to provide content through existing GDS EDIFACT channels for partners that have not yet migrated to NDC, meaning no agent is immediately cut off from its inventory.

How the Phased Rollout Works

Sales vice-president Anthony Uphill described the approach as "collaborative and intentionally phased", saying the airline has been "listening to our partners and making sure the right support and servicing capabilities are in place from the outset", according to Travel Weekly.

Uphill was direct about the direction of travel for content: "As we move forward, NDC will increasingly be where our best content and retailing capabilities are available."

He added that agents new to NDC are encouraged to make contact, with Virgin Atlantic committing to support them through the transition.

Travelfusion's Role as Launch Aggregator

Travelfusion is the first aggregator through which the new NDC content will be accessible. Eytan Bicaci Baruh, commercial vice-president at Travelfusion, said the partnership "reflects our commitment to helping airlines adopt modern distribution while giving travel businesses access to richer content through a single, reliable connection", as reported by Travel Weekly.

Bicaci Baruh described Virgin Atlantic as "an important addition" to Travelfusion's airline portfolio as it seeks to strengthen its position in the NDC aggregation market.

Why NDC Matters for Travel Agents

NDC is an IATA-developed standard that allows airlines to distribute richer, more personalised content directly to travel sellers, bypassing the limitations of legacy EDIFACT messaging. For agents, the practical difference is access to a wider range of fare bundles, seat options and ancillaries that may not be available through traditional GDS channels.

For airlines, the commercial incentive is clear: NDC gives them greater control over how their products are presented and priced, and reduces reliance on intermediaries whose fees can erode margins.

Virgin Atlantic is not alone in pushing this direction. Across the industry, carriers have been accelerating their NDC programmes, with the expectation that best-available fares will increasingly migrate away from legacy channels.

Where to Find Virgin Atlantic's NDC Portal

Trade partners looking to register or find out more can do so through the VS NDC Connect portal, linked from the Travel Weekly report. Virgin Atlantic says support is available for those beginning the transition.

You can explore Virgin Atlantic's wider network and route options using our Airline Search tool.

It is also worth noting that the Virgin brand is active on other fronts: we recently covered Virgin Rail's plans for 20 daily Channel Tunnel services from 2030, a separate but equally ambitious expansion of the group's transport footprint.

The Bottom Line

Virgin Atlantic's NDC launch is a measured, well-signalled move rather than a sudden disruption. The phased approach, with EDIFACT channels maintained alongside the new NDC connections, gives trade partners time to adapt without losing access to inventory.

The clearest message from Uphill is that best content will follow NDC over time. Agents who delay migration risk finding themselves with a narrower view of what Virgin Atlantic sells. The conversation about transition, the airline says, is open and supported.
