Porter Airlines has marked a significant milestone in its westward expansion, inaugurating nonstop service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
The seasonal route, operating daily until 19 April 2026, represents Porter’s first transborder service from Western Canada and strengthens the carrier’s growing presence across North America.
Vancouver-Phoenix Flights: A Strategic Step in Porter’s Western Growth
The launch underscores Porter’s ambition to build a meaningful network beyond its Eastern Canadian stronghold.
For Vancouver, the new service adds a competitive option on a leisure-heavy corridor, while for Porter, it signals a deeper commitment to establishing a foothold in Western Canada’s aviation landscape.
Andrew Pierce, vice president of network planning and reporting at Porter Airlines, framed the development as a pivotal moment for the airline’s westward strategy.
“Being able to give travellers more convenient options to travel from Vancouver is a pivotal moment for Porter,” he said.
“This route makes Phoenix’s unique desert and mountain landscape more accessible to our passengers in the west, and offers travellers a seamless connection to additional destinations in the U.S., through our codeshare partner, American Airlines.”
The partnership with American Airlines continues to be a cornerstone of Porter’s transborder connectivity, enabling passengers to access onward destinations such as Tucson and San Diego.
With Phoenix now added to the map from Vancouver, the airline is positioning itself to compete more effectively for travellers seeking both leisure and connecting itineraries.
Passenger Experience at the Centre
Porter’s brand proposition remains a differentiator in the North American market, and the Vancouver–Phoenix route is no exception.
The service is operated by the Embraer E195-E2, the backbone of Porter’s expanding jet fleet.
Configured with 132 seats and no middle seats, the aircraft aligns with the airline’s strategy of offering a more comfortable narrowbody experience.
Onboard, passengers can expect the full suite of Porter’s elevated economy amenities, including free premium snacks, complimentary beer and wine served in glassware, and high-speed Wi-Fi at no additional cost.
These features continue to set Porter apart in a market where buy-on-board models have become the norm.
For travellers seeking an enhanced experience, PorterReserve provides an all-inclusive fare option featuring fresh meals, extra legroom, flexible changes, two checked bags, and dedicated check-in.
The same elements can be added individually through the PorterClassic fare, allowing passengers to tailor their journey based on preference and budget.
Strong Support from Airport Partners

The route launch has been welcomed by airport authorities on both ends, each highlighting the economic and connectivity benefits of the new service.
At Phoenix Sky Harbor, Aviation Director Chad Makovsky emphasised the value of Porter’s growing presence in the region.
“We’re excited for Porter’s growth in the Phoenix market,” he said.
“Their partnership and commitment mean that travellers have more high-quality, convenient options between Phoenix and Canada.”
“We look forward to welcoming travellers on Porter’s first transborder route from Vancouver.”
Vancouver International Airport echoed that sentiment, noting the importance of strengthening links between British Columbia and key U.S. destinations.
Russ Atkinson, Director of Air Service Development at YVR, said:
“We are pleased to support Porter Airlines’ growth at YVR and celebrate this additional new service from Vancouver.”
“The new non-stop route to Phoenix strengthens connectivity for British Columbians, adds capacity for a key leisure and business destination, and supports economic activity while providing travellers with greater choice.”
Expanding the Phoenix Portfolio With Vancouver Flights…
The Vancouver–Phoenix service becomes Porter’s third route into Phoenix, complementing year-round flights from Toronto Pearson and seasonal service from Ottawa.
The addition of a Western Canadian gateway broadens the airline’s reach and enhances its ability to serve a diverse mix of travellers heading to Arizona’s popular winter-sun destinations.
For Phoenix, the new route adds capacity during a peak travel season, supporting tourism flows and providing more options for Canadian visitors—one of the region’s most important inbound markets.
The Vancouver–Phoenix corridor has long been a staple of winter travel demand, driven by leisure traffic, second-home owners, and outdoor tourism.
Porter’s entry introduces a fresh competitor with a differentiated product, potentially reshaping traveller expectations on a route historically dominated by larger carriers.
By pairing its signature onboard experience with a modern, fuel-efficient fleet, Porter is positioning itself as a premium alternative in a market where comfort and service are increasingly valued by travellers seeking more than just a seat.
Looking Ahead
As Porter continues its westward expansion, the Vancouver–Phoenix launch serves as a clear signal of the airline’s broader ambitions.
With a growing fleet of E195-E2 aircraft and an expanding network of transborder and domestic routes, the carrier is steadily evolving from a regional operator into a national competitor with a distinctive brand identity.
For now, the new service offers Western Canadian travellers a fresh, service-forward option to one of the Southwest’s most popular destinations—while giving Porter another strategic foothold in its ongoing transformation.
