Cork Airport is set for one of its most significant network expansions in recent years as Aer Lingus and Aer Lingus Regional, operated exclusively by Emerald Airlines, unveil a strengthened summer 2026 schedule.

The carrier is adding new European destinations, increasing frequencies on key routes, and converting a popular seasonal service into a year‑round operation.

The move underscores Aer Lingus’ growing commitment to the south of Ireland and positions Cork as a more competitive gateway for leisure and business travel.

The airline confirmed that two brand new routes will launch next summer, connecting Cork with Nice on the French Riviera and Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

These additions will be complemented by an expanded schedule to Glasgow and the extension of the Prague service into a full year‑round operation.

As the press release states, Aer Lingus is “gearing up for a busy summer 2026 schedule from Cork Airport” with a network that is broader and more diverse than ever.

One of the most notable enhancements is the increase in capacity on the Cork to Glasgow route, operated by Aer Lingus Regional.

Beginning 25 May 2026, the service will grow from four to six weekly flights, with new Tuesday and Wednesday rotations added to the schedule. The airline cites strong demand as the driving force behind the expansion.

Ian Lough, Head of Commercial at Emerald Airlines, emphasised the importance of the route and the confidence the airline has in the Cork market.

“We are delighted to be enhancing our services from Cork Airport with an increase in capacity on our popular Glasgow route,” he said.

He added that the additional flights “reflect the strong demand we continue to see and reinforce our commitment to offering greater choice, flexibility and convenience for passengers travelling from Cork.”

The timing of the expansion aligns with peak leisure demand, with Glasgow’s summer calendar of festivals, outdoor events and cultural attractions expected to draw strong interest from Irish travellers.

Two New European Routes from Cork: Nice and Santiago de Compostela

Aer Lingus is also broadening Cork’s reach into continental Europe with two new destinations.

Flights to Nice will begin on 2 May 2026, offering passengers direct access to the Côte d’Azur, one of Europe’s most sought‑after summer regions.

A month later, on 1 June, the airline will launch a new service to Santiago de Compostela, opening a direct link to Galicia and the historic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes.

These additions strengthen Cork’s position as a regional hub for sun‑seekers, cultural travellers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The airline notes that the new routes “provide travel lovers with fresh choices, whether they’re planning to walk the Camino de Santiago or discover Nice on the Côte d’Azur.”

Prague Becomes a Year‑Round Staple

Another major development is the extension of the Cork to Prague service. Previously a winter‑only route, the airline will now operate it throughout the year.

This shift reflects sustained demand for city breaks and cultural travel, as well as Prague’s growing appeal as a short‑haul destination for Irish passengers.

Tara Finn, Head of Aviation Business Development and Communications at Cork Airport, welcomed the move, saying:

“We are delighted to see Aer Lingus Regional increase its capacity from Cork to Glasgow for our 2026 summer schedule as well as the addition of new Aer Lingus routes to Santiago de Compostela, Nice and the extension of Prague year‑round.”

Strengthening an Already Diverse Network

The expanded schedule builds on Aer Lingus’ existing portfolio of popular leisure routes from Cork, including Malaga, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Faro, Palma de Mallorca, Bilbao, Bordeaux and London Heathrow.

With the latest additions, Aer Lingus Chief Customer Officer Susanne Carberry describes the 2026 programme as the airline’s “most diverse offering yet.”

Carberry highlighted the airline’s broader strategy, noting: “Aer Lingus is committed to offering customers more choice and convenience, with the addition of six new routes from Cork Airport in the past 12 months.”

Aer Lingus Regional will also maintain its daily service to Bristol, with two flights operating on Mondays and Fridays.

The route continues to perform strongly, supported by Bristol’s vibrant cultural scene and its appeal as a gateway to southwest England.

In addition, Aer Lingus has confirmed that its 10kg carry‑on baggage policy will be extended across all Aer Lingus Regional flights from 3 March 2026.

Passengers booking Plus or Advantage fares will benefit from a complimentary 10kg cabin bag, while Saver fare customers can opt to pay for carry‑on or check a bag into the hold at no extra cost.

AerClub members will also see their baggage entitlements extended across the regional network.

The scale of Aer Lingus’ 2026 expansion sends a clear message: Cork Airport is becoming an increasingly important part of the airline’s strategy.

With new destinations, increased frequencies and improved passenger benefits, the airport is set for a strong summer season and a more competitive position in Ireland’s aviation landscape.
