In the last few moments, Aurigny flight GR678 from Guernsey to Manchester has declared an emergency near Reading.

UPDATE #1 @ 1752 UK time – The aircraft has appeared to have made a u-turn near Basingstoke.

UPDATE #2 @ 1755 UK time – G-ORAI is the aircraft involved in the incident.

As per Planespotters.net, G-ORAI is a 6.5 year old ATR 72-600 that was delivered to Aurigny back in January 2020.

Of the ATR 72-600 variant, the Channel Islands-based carrier has six of them in their fleet, of which five are in active service, and one is parked, offering an average fleet age of 9.2 years.

Aurigny provides vital air service from the Channel Islands to certain destinations in the UK such as Manchester, London and others.

The carrier is very well known within the UK regional airline landscape, and is owned by the State of Guernsey.

UPDATE #3 @ 1757 UK time – Aurigny flight GR678 is descending currently, with Southampton the closest and most suitable airport for diversion.

UPDATE #4 @ 1800 UK time – GR678 is descending through 5,000 feet, and looks to be setting itself up for an approach into Southampton.

UPDATE #5 @ 1803 UK time – The ATR 72-600 is now on final approach for an emergency landing.

Cause not yet known.

UPDATE #6 @ 1808 UK time – TOUCHDOWN!

Aurigny flight GR678, originally bound for Manchester from Guernsey, has appeared to have made a successful emergency landing into Southampton.

The reason for the emergency is not yet clear at this time.

As soon as we have more information, then we will update you accordingly.

For now, this remains a developing story pending additional updates that come through.

UPDATE #7 @ 8/6/26 at 1845 UK time – The Aviation Herald reports this emergency was due to a cracked windshield.
